| Background | Disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain-containing protein 9, also known as MCMP or MDC9 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ADAM9 gene. This gene encodes a member of the ADAM('a disintegrin and metalloproteinase') family and exhibits a number of characteristics of class III reprolysins. This gene is mapped to 8p11.22. Members of this family are membrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins, and have been implicated in a variety of biological processes involving cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, including fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. |
